  • MORE INFORMATION

    SPECIAL INTERESTS
    • I'm primarily interested in fiction of all types. I like quirky, offbeat and edgy fiction, both literary and commercial. High concept, compelling characters and a unique voice are big draws for me.
    • I have a particular expertise in fantasy, science fiction, urban fantasy, horror, paranormal romance, and graphic novels. I love all kinds of fantasy and science fiction, both commercial and literary. I'm looking for all the related skiffy sub-genres: urban fantasy, epic fantasy, paranormal romance, slipstream, new weird, horror, steampunk, space opera, military SF, cyberpunk and surrealism. However, this is not all I represent!
    • I'm also interested in mainstream and genre YA.
    • In non-fiction, I'm looking for strong narrative non-fiction, works of LGBT interest, pop culture and original books on marketing, business or technology.
    DOES NOT REPRESENT
    • I DO NOT REPRESENT: poetry, short story collections, screenplays, Westerns, Christian fiction/non-fiction, children's books, children's picture books.

    FACTS/TIDBITS
    • *** PLEASE NOTE: As of March 19, 2009, I am temporarily closed to new submissions ***
    • I'm an agent with FinePrint Literary Management, a full service literary agency based in New York City. FinePrint launched in September 2007 as the merger of the Peter Rubie Literary Agency and the Imprint Agency. We represent both fiction and nonfiction for adults and young adults. Our agency maintains active memberships with AAR, RWA, MWA, SFWA, WNBA, and SCBWI.
    • My personal background: My first job in publishing was in Northern California as a mass merchandise sales assistant for Ballantine Books. For five years I served as Director of Publicity for Del Rey Books where I specialized in the creative publicity and marketing of science fiction, fantasy, pop culture, YA fantasy, graphic novels, manga and third-party licensed media. Some of the authors whose publicity campaigns I had the privilege to manage at Del Rey include Terry Brooks, Sir Arthur C. Clarke, Stephen Baxter, Elizabeth Moon, China Mieville, Richard K. Morgan, Minister Faust, Matthew Stover, R.A. Salvatore, and Harvey Pekar, among many others. I've also worked as a freelance publicist and copywriter for several major trade publishers and as a book reviewer for the San Francisco Chronicle under the inimitable Pat Holt.
    • My background in independent book publishing goes even further back to my first job as a bookstore manager in 1984 at the now-defunct San Francisco Bay Area bookstore Central Park Books. I also worked at Printers, Inc. Books in Palo Alto and spent six years as the marketing and events manager at Stacey's Bookstore in San Francisco.
