SUMMERTIME CHALLENGE

Summertime is coming, folks, and you know what that means: Conference season is here, and there's no where to hide.

Don't think you have the benefit of time, money, or geography to attend a writing conference? Think again. If Grand Forks, North Dakota is hosting its 37th annual writers conference, then chances are... there's a writer's conference somewhere near you, too. (Sending a shout-out to UND!)

And without time, money, or distance to stop you, there's really no excuse why you can't attend a writer's conference, or workshop, or residency, or colony, or seminar, or writer's retreat, or book festival, or some other career-advancing industry event this summer. Plus, we're telling you. The number of literary events between June and September this year is staggering. Soooooo staggering, in fact, that we guarantee that every AQ user is within a two-hour drive of something literary. In fact, that's our summertime challenge. Do the research. Consider the benefits. And make the commitment (okay, sorry to sound like Tony Robbins.)

Still not convinced? How about the fact that live-action networking is one of the best ways to rise above the slushpile, especially if you choose a conference with an impressive attendee list of industry movers and shakers? (And boy, there are some stellar conferences this summer that basically throw you into the laps of top-tier agents and editors). Besides, nothing convinces your defeatist inner voice that, "yes, you are serious this year about becoming a serious writer" more than dropping a few cool hundred bucks on advanced registration.

Because it's not about finding a writer's conference, or workshop, or residency, or colony, or seminar, or writer's retreat, or book festival. It's about narrowing down your choices to only one.

Because treating yourself like a serious writer doesn't start once you're published...
